KOREAN SKINCARE WITH KLAIRS AND WISHTREND*

March 27, 2018

If there's one constant, redeeming feature to my life, it's my skincare routine. (Yes, this is shade at myself because of my recent absence on the blog. I'll have a post about it soon!) Once I find a product that I love, I find it difficult to introduce anything new because I fear the unknown. After suffering with various skincare issues since my pre-teens, I've become really careful about ingredients, products and anything that could potential cause my skin to flare up. So when Wishtrend contacted me and asked me to test some of their skincare products, I was intrigued, curious and also a little hesitant. I'm a huge fan of Korean skincare, and I could spend hours watching YouTube videos of different regimes and steps people take to achieve flawless skin. Ultimately I agreed, and I was sent out two different items from their Klairs range, suitable for my dehydrated, sensitive and uneven skin. I've been using these products for about a month now and to ease myself back into blogging, I wanted to share my impressions of the Klairs Gentle Deep Black Cleansing Oil and Midnight Blue Calming Cream.

GENTLE BLACK DEEP CLEANSING OIL:
My skincare routine mainly consists of heavy, cream cleansers that are good for helping to remove my make-up at the end of a long day, or more exfoliating products to help remove dead skin. Never did I imagine that a light as water, oil-based cleanser would be able to do both for my skin, but that's exactly what the Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil does. The name itself set my nerves on edge a little bit, because usually anything that involves deep cleansing and "black" is derived from charcoal, or any equally porous ingredient. Instead, this cleansing oil contains oils extracted from; black beans to control sebum production and soothe the skin; black sesame oil to provide the skin with antioxidants; and blackcurrant seeds for minerals and vitamins. It smells strangely fresh, vegetable-like and really pleasant.

The instructions suggest applying the oil directly to dry skin and massaging around the face for 2-3 minutes, before washing off with lukewarm water and patting dry with a towel. I really enjoy the sensation of massaging the oil into my skin, be it after I've just woken up or when my face is still caked in the contents of my make-up bag. You can literally feel the product cleansing, lightly exfoliating and soothing the skin as you work it into you face, and you don't need to use a whole lot of product to thoroughly cover your face. After adding the water, the cleanser turns to a thick, milky paste, which emphasises how cleansing the product is. A little bit of product goes a long way, and I still have well over two thirds of a bottle left.

Almost immediately after drying my face I noticed how reduced my pores looked, how soft my skin felt and how nourished it appeared. I get a lot of clogged, dead skin cells around my nose and this cleanser truly helped reduce and prevent that from happening, whilst also making my skin look brighter and worthy of being featured in a Korean beauty ad. Okay, so maybe not that good, but trust me, it looked pretty damn good. I've been using this cleanser twice a day, every day since and the difference in my skin is phenomenal! Especially considering that I've come off the Pill, which I have been taking since I was 13 to combat my problematic skin. I haven't felt this confident in how I look with make-up and without in years, and I do believe it's largely down to switching to this product.

MIDNIGHT BLUE CALMING CREAM:

To help combat the sensitivity of my skin, Wishtrend also sent me the Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream, which is designed to add another layer of protection to sensitive skin. I get flushed easily, and struggle with perpetually rosy cheeks, so I'm always up for trying anything that will help me look less Cabbage Patch doll and more porcelain, smooth and ready to go with or without make-up. Designed to target the worst-affected areas of skin, a little touch is all you need to ensure that the chamomile extract instantly soothes and calms irritated skin. It also comes with a tiny spoon to easily spread it around the face too. It's best applied after serum because it isn't designed to moisturise the skin as much as it aims to balance any kind of sensitivity.

I absolutely adore the Midnight Blue Calming Cream because it does exactly what it says on the pot. I've found that when I apply it before starting my beauty routine, it truly does help to reduce the appearance of redness underneath my make-up, as well as my skin feeling smoother and the tone more even since using it twice a day. I'm a huge fan of how long-lasting this product is too - you don't have to be generous with it, a little truly goes a long way. This will definitely be a staple in my skincare routine for years to come.

When I say that these two products have completely changed my skincare routine and how I feel about myself, it is no exaggeration. My skin feels better, my pores look reduced and most importantly I feel more confident without make-up than I ever have in my life. When I run out of these, I will definitely be purchasing more from Klairs and investing in their full range of items! And I will also never feel uncertain about trying new skincare items again.

Have you tried any Korean skincare products before? Or anything from Wishtrend / Klairs?

Thank you for reading,

Until next time,

Rachel x
