MY HOME DECOR WISHLIST WITH UNCOMMON GOODS!*

August 30, 2017

With less than two days to go until my boyfriend and I make The Big Move, I've been relentless in my search for homeware. So when Uncommon Goods* contacted me about a collaboration, I may or may not have let out a little squeal. Be it anniversary gifts, birthday presents or something personal, the brand have the perfect product for every occasion.

Uncommon Goods are a company that pride themselves on collaborating with independent designers and creating a sustainable business through minimising their environmental impact and encouraging their artists to use recyclable materials. Here's a little snippet of their story;

We know that there's a story behind every product. It's that of an emerging designer just introducing her work to the world; artisans working collaboratively in a low income country; or a seasoned artist crafting each of his pieces by hand. With your help, we're building a community of passionate people who love our products and connect with the stories behind them. We're growing not only our artist family, but also a strong following of customers who celebrate artists and delight in surrounding themselves with creative design."

Recently, I've been making a conscious effort to reduce my environmental impact, and trying to tie that into my quest for the perfect home decor. Today I've decided to put together this home decor wishlist with Uncommon Goods and share with you all some of the unique and original creations available from their website!

RECYCLED GLASS TREE GLOBES

These four gorgeous glass globes are based around four different relationships; family, motherhood, friendship and sisters. The globes are made from recycled glass and I think they would make a beautiful centre piece for a glass coffee table, or dining table. I really love the family based one, which is mainly blue, and I think it's a great piece for couples who are beginning the next phase of their relationship.

AGATE COASTERS

A little known fact about me is that I'm obsessed with all things crystal and geode related, so when I saw these really beautiful, bright agate coasters I immediately started to envision them in my dining room. Made from real agate, which was once thought of as a protective "charm" against danger and a producer of sweet dreams, these coasters are simply stunning. If I owned them I would be so protective of them, I probably wouldn't even let anyone use them!

SEA OF LOVE POSTER

My SO is a marine science student, and we're moving to an apartment by the coast, therefore I can't think of anything better to decorate our apartment with than this beautiful poster adorned with various sea creatures. It even features a super cute doodle of an orca - one of my favourite animals! The poster itself is printed on recycled newspaper with twelve hand-drawn illustrations and a message of love at the bottom.

SUCCULENT LIVING WALL PLANTER

Okay so this may be a little too extravagant for a student apartment, but a girl can dream, right? I'm in love with all things succulent and cacti, so having a set up pretty much identical to what's shown in the picture, is my idea of heaven. The structure is held in place by water preserving moss and light mesh, and is suitable for indoors and out! But if my plant mom skills are anything to go by, I would definitely struggle to look after this.

FUR AND FLOWERS CAT / DOG DOOR MATS

Every new house needs the perfect door mat to welcome guests and make everyone feel a little more at home when they pop round for tea and a chat. I'm struggling to pick a favourite between these two Fur and Flowers cat and dog welcome mats, because they're both just too cute. Both are eco-friendly and biodegradable, so great for the environment and for stopping dirt at the door. I think I'll have to settle for one for the outside and one for the inside!

GLOWING MILKY WAY WALL CLOCK

Anything astrology / astronomy related will always find a place on my wishlist, and this beautiful wall clock is no exception. I would find it really difficult to tell the time on, because I'm sure I would get distracted by all of the wonderful details on it! It glows a gentle, pale green in the dark, so no matter what time of the day, or night, you'll have no difficulty telling the time.

MONSTERA LEAF AREA RUG

Imagine the scene. You've come home from a long day at work / university, and your feet are killing you. You chuck off your shoes, and walk over towards your sofa, stepping on this gorgeous, soft rug. Instant comfort. This rug is made from 100% cotton and is also machine washable, and perfect for pretty much any area of the house. Personally, I'm fantasising about having it in a white bedroom with white wooden floors, to add a little pop of colour.

ILLUSTRATED CAT AND DOG PILLOWS

In case you couldn't already tell, I love anything animal related, and these cushions would be perfect to jazz up the corner sofa in our new apartment. I go a little bit OTT with cushions and pillows sometimes, much to my boyfriend's dismay, but when they're THIS cute, how can I resist?

RECYCLED GLASS BUMBLEBEE NIGHT LIGHT

I'm very into Hygge, and all things cosy, and I can imagine myself turning this beautiful lamp on on a cold autumn night, or a warm spring evening. The night light is fused with broken bottles that were stopped from heading to the landfill site, and produces a warm, colorful glow. Each light also comes with a packet of seeds, which you can plant bee-friendly plants with. This lamp ticks every single box for me.

Believe me, if my budget extended to all of these items my house would be filled with all of these weird and wonderful creations from Uncommon Goods. But I think I may have to limit myself to just a few of my favourites to help make our apartment feel like home.

I want to say a huge thank you to Uncommon Goods for getting in touch, and opening my eyes to the amazing selections of products they do, and the work of independent designs they collaborate with. And, as ever, a huge thank you to all of you for reading.

Until next time,

Rachel
