TRIED AND TESTED: PALMER'S COCONUT OIL HAIRCARE RANGE!*
September 21, 2017I've been dying my hair since I was 13 years old, and boy, have I put it through the ringer. Currently, in an attempt to keep it white blonde with a faint tinge of pink, I use no less than three (!!) different shampoos and conditioners at the same time. It's dry, it's falling out and it is definitely not healthy. So when Palmer's offered to send me some of their new Coconut Oil Formula haircare range* to try, I jumped at the chance. I will do absolutely anything to keep my hair healthy and in the best condition possible.
Palmer's are probably best-known for their incredible cocoa butter products, most of which have been a staple in my own mother's beauty regime for years. I didn't even know they made hair products! I received both their conditioning shampoo, repairing conditioner, and rather generously, their leave-in conditioner too. Immediately, as I ripped open the parcel to start snapping pictures, the sweet smell of coconut lit up my senses. Every product also contains a little hint of gardenia extract to add a floral note and break up the freshness of the coconut, as well as Tahitian Monoï, infused with Tiaré flower petals which is designed to hydrate the hair and improve shine.
What you also may not know about Palmer's is that they strive to create great quality products, while also maintaining their ethical stance on haircare. They are cruelty free, and their products contain no sulphates, parabens or other chemical ingredients that may comprise the quality of the hair, which definitely put my mind at ease.
I was a little hesitant about the products, as from working in cosmetics, I know that coconut oil can sometimes strip colour from the hair. And I very much enjoy having a little hint of pink to my hair. Nevertheless, I bit the bullet and decided to try them anyway!
I'm pretty sure anyone reading knows how to wash, condition and treat hair, so I'll spare you those details. Instead I'll let you know how the products felt, smelled and worked with my very dry hair.
When it comes to shampoo I'm very much of the opinion that the more product I can fit into my tiny hands, the better my hair will feel as I use it, so I squeezed a generous helping of the shampoo into my hand. Immediately, what I noticed was that the formula was slightly thicker than other shampoos, very reminiscent of a 2 in 1. As I began to massage it into my hair and scalp I noticed that it didn't lather into the light foam that most regular shampoos do, and this is probably due to the lack of sulphates and foaming agents in the product. Instead it lathering into a very creamy consistency and the more I worked it through my hair, the more it began to lather. The effects were instantaneous and my hair felt softer as I rinsed the product out.
After rinsing, I moved onto the conditioner, and I don't think I can truly put into words how much I love this product. It's quite a thick consistency, almost like a mousse, which is quite different to the thick, liquid conditioner I use regularly. It also smelled phenomenal, vaguely similar to that lovely vanilla / coconut ice-cream you get when you're on holiday. It was beautiful. As well as coconut, the conditioner also contains argon oil and sunflower oil extract to add extra condition and shine to the hair. It's recommended to keep it on the hair for 3-5 minutes to allow the product to fully absorb, so I went about the rest of my shower business before rinsing it out. While I didn't immediately feel the effect of the conditioner whilst rinsing out (again, lack of sulphates and silicone), hours later I have definitely noticed a difference in how soft and healthy my hair feels.
Now, I haven't used a leave-in conditioner spray for quite a long time, so I was a little apprehensive about this product in particular. The directions encourage you to spray it onto damp / towel dried hair, and brush through, to allow the product to coat and condition every inch of the hair. As I have problems with my hair falling out literally every time I brush it, I was kind of unsure about whether or not to follow through with this step, but I tried it anyway. I brushed the product through, and wrapped my hair back up in a towel. Since it has dried, I can't honestly say I've noticed a huge difference in how this product affected my hair, however I'm willing to give it a few more goes to see if over time it helps improve the condition of my hair.
After only one use, I've already noticed a change in how my hair looks and feels. It feels lighter, softer and shinier, which is incredibly difficult to do with light blonde hair. It also smells absolutely divine, every time I catch a whiff of myself I honestly want to just tuck into my hair. I'm a fan of both the shampoo and conditioner, but only time will tell whether or not I'll be successful with the leave-in spray.
Once again I want to say a huge big thank you to Palmer's for sending such generous samples of their coconut oil products, and I hope as I continue to use them long-term my hair will thank me for it!
What's your haircare routine like currently? What are your favourite products?
Thank you for reading, until next time!
