PLUM RAIN SHOW GEL + CREME DE MENTHE MOUTHWASH TABS REVIEW!

March 16, 2017

I'm sure if you've been reading my blog for long enough you'll have become quite used to my unreliable promises when it comes to posting, and inevitably this week has been no difference. My mental health has been somewhat unstable the last wee while so I hope you can forgive me. However, as you can imagine I've fallen behind when it comes to my Lush reviews and updates on new products, and both a Mother's Day and Easter haul are coming (slowly but surely)!

In today's post, I thought I would focus on a couple of regular line products that seem to have been overshadowed by the new seasonal ranges. Both are previous Oxford Street exclusives and both have made their way onto my all time favourites, "Holy Grail" of Lush list, another post that will make it's way onto my blog at some point. Introducing, Plum Rain shower gel and Creme de Menthe mouthwash tabs.

PLUM RAIN SHOWER GEL

When I first found out that this product was going to become a regular line item, I'm not going to lie, I squealed a little. I had heard nothing but good things about this product from my colleagues so I couldn't wait to finally get a sniff of it myself.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:
Tart and citrusy sweet, Plum Rain contains fresh plum juice, Sicilian mandarin oil and umeboshi infusion - the Japanese art of pickling a food, in this case plums! This shower gel smells like freshly dampened grass after it's rained, if that rain was the juice of sweet, ripe plums. It also contains carrageenan seaweed extract making it a lot thicker than other shower gels, which means that it's a little bit harder to lather up on a sponge / shower floof. However, it leaves your skin feeling indescribably soft and refreshed, which makes it the perfect shower companion for this bizarre weather transition the entire country seems to be experiencing right now. The scent also doesn't linger as much on the skin as other products do, but the euphoric sensation it provides is instant. It will brighten up your darkest days, and leave you feeling raring to go on your most productive and it has become a firm favourite in my shower routine.

PROS: The scent is rich, indulgent and instantly makes me want to hop out of the shower and eat every piece of fruit in the nearest vicinity. It's left my dry winter skin feeling hydrated and conditioned more so than any other in-shower product I've used.
CONS: I can't help but wish the scent lingered on the skin, as I find it tends to get lost when I use other products over the top of it,

OVERALL: Very rarely do I rate products I review a 10/10, but in Plum Rain's case I feel like it's justified. If you get the chance to pop into your local store, to check it out for yourself because it's been very sadly overshadowed by some of the newer additions to the range.

CREME DE MENTHE MOUTHWASH TABS
If you have zero experience with Lush's mouth range, you may be unaware of the likes of Toothy Tabs and Mouthwash tabs, so here's a quick rundown. It's very difficult to find cruelty free oral health care on the high street, and even when you do, we've all had an incident in our lives where we've used just a bit too much toothpaste and desperately thought of a way to squeeze it back into the tube. And then of course there's the whole issue of microbeads, too much abrasivity ruining enamel etc. (There's a very helpful article here!) Lush offer a cruelty free, solid and easy to use way to improve your dental routine.

BUT HOW DO I USE THEM?
All Toothy Tabs / Mouthwash tabs are made with a sodium bicarbonate base, just like the bath bombs, which means that when they make contact with water, they begin to fizz. Simply pop one in your mouth, let it fizz, chew it, add water (in the case of TT's wet your toothbrush and start to brush as normal), gargle, swoosh and spit it out!

WHAT DO THESE TASTE LIKE?
Creme de Menthe contains peppermint oil, powder and menthol crystals so it doesn't stray too far way from the typical mouthwash taste you may be used to. They're my personal favourites, but there are other flavours for those of you who like to be a bit adventurous - Ugai combines anti-bacterial tea tree oil and seal salt, whereas Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster tastes like lemon and aniseed. CdM leaves my mouth feeling fresh and smelling great for such a long time after I use it.

PROS: These mouthwash tabs are the perfect pick me up to add to your morning routine, and they're also great to keep on you at all times. Just make sure you have some water handy!
CONS: The texture is a little strange to get used to at first, and can initially feel quite gritty on the teeth, but stick with them.
OVERALL: 8/10. These aren't a part of my everyday routine, I use them more when I wake up in the morning and I have SERIOUS dragon breath, and sometimes I just cannot get over the taste when I bite into them, but they're a wonderful invention made in minty heaven and I adore them and how fresh they leave my mouth feeling.

There you have it folks! I hope you have all enjoyed this post and if there are any items you want to see my review or posts you really want to see please let me know.
I promise more posts will be coming this weekend as I desperately procrastinate from the three (!) essays I have due in two weeks time and I will do my utmost to keep that promise.

Until then,
Rachel
