BATH BOMBS, JELLY MASKS AND BODY SPRAYS! - LATEST LUSH COSMETICS RELEASES

July 25, 2017

Amongst the devastating amount of discontinuations LUSH have announced, (and trust me, myself and the rest of the staff are upset too!) the full list of which you can find here, some bright, shiny new things have made their way onto our shelves recently. I've already posted specifically about Metamorphosis bath bomb, so it's not included in this post, but what will be included in this post are three brand new bath bombs, five new hair treatments and five new jelly masks. "Jelly masks?!" I hear you cry - yep, jelly masks. Don't worry I'll also provide a handy step-by-step guide on how to use them too.

BATH BOMBS

YELLOW SUBMARINE

As previously mentioned, Metamorphosis bath bomb was released quite some time ago now alongside Yellow Submarine. Now, after having demonstrated copious yellow submarines in store I had been quite reluctant to purchase one for myself to use because all in all this bath bomb isn't really for me. It smells quite strongly of coconut despite the fact there's no coconut oil actually in the bath bomb, instead it's filled with citrusy Brazillian orange oil and lemongrass, coupled with coriander leaf oil which becomes a lot more prominent in the water. The yellow and pink combine to make a super cute peach colour in the water, but the smell is just far too strong for me, and I can stomach a lot of strong smells.

ROCKET SCIENCE

LUSH definitely seem to be fond of vehicular shaped bath products right now. Rocket Science may be one of the smaller additions to the bath range but it packs a mighty punch. With a base of lemon and bergamot oils in theory it should be super zesty, but my nose definitely picks out sweeter notes to it. It spews out yellow, blue and pink, very similar to my all time favourite Intergalactic bath bomb, and it turns the water a gorgeous deep blue colour. I think I'm definitely going to hoard this bath omb for a long time to come.

CHEER UP BUTTERCUP

For those of you who prefer a simpler, less glitzy bath bomb, Cheer Up Buttercup is going to be your perfect match. It's cute, dinky and smells really fresh, due to its main ingredients being lime and neroli oil. It also has lots of cocoa butter inside so it creates a silky texture to your water and would be a wonderful treat for those of you who suffer with sensitive or dry skin.

HAIR TREATMENTS

There are five brand new hair treatments available to stock up on, and all are fairly simple to use - the instructions are even on the sticks they're attached to! If you've never used one before you simple take a mug filled with boiled water and slowly stir in your hair treatment until it begins to thicken and completely melts away. Allow the treatment to cool for 20 minutes before applying to dry hair, the sit back, relax for another 20 minutes and then shampoo as normal! If you don't use all of it up, you can store the rest away in your fridge for up to 4 weeks.

I picked up Marilyn for myself, and I intend on using it after I visit the hairdresser, as it is perfect for keeping brassy tones out of bleach blonde hair. All of the treatments have a base of extra virgin olive oil to deeply condition the hair, but Marilyn has a lot of different ingredients that make it the perfect companion for us blonde babies. Chamomile naturally lightens the hair and eliminates brassy tones, while saffron helps to intensify colour as organic lemon juice and lemon oil cleanse and brighten the hair for a silky soft shine. The other four treatments all do different things for different hair types;

YUGE: Sea salt will add volume to flat hair, while guar gum (an ingredient that is also in every treatment) will help improve the condition of your hair as jojoba oil adds shine. This treatment also contains peppermint oil which is both cooling and stimulating on the scalp, and perfect for adding a little bit of thickness to your hair too.

NEW: This treatment is a slightly more intense version of the popular shampoo bar. It also contains cinnamon and clove bud oils which are both super stimulating ingredients that encourage the flow of blood to the scalp and aid in promoting hair growth. Rosemary and nettle are soothing on the scalp and will provide lots of relief to those who are prone to itchy, flaky scalps.

HAIR DOCTOR: This treatment is perfect for those of you who have absolutely no idea what your hair is doing! It's main ingredient is fuller's earth clay which is deeply cleansing on the hair so will be perfect to combat oiliness, and again contains those stimulating peppermint and rosemary oils. It's also the only non-vegan treatment as it contains and ingredient called lanolin which is derived from sheep's wool and makes the hair easier to brush and less tangled. Hair Doctor contains a small quantity of red henna too, which coats each hair individually and while it won't be enough to actually add colour to your hair, it will enhance the natural colour of your hair.

DAMAGED: Now this is a treatment that already existed, and although it's not exactly brand new it has had a bit of a jush and been reformulated to the same high standard as the rest of the hair treatments. If you're the type of person who regularly puts your hair through the ringer then you may just be interested in this treatment. Almond and avocado oil are both deeply conditioning for the hair, and almond oil also forms a protective barrier on the scalp, preventing further damage from heat and bleach!

JELLY MASKS

Previously released at the most recent LUSH Summit, the new face jelly masks have been a complete mystery amongst customers and staff alike until the news was broken that they were finally coming to our shop shelves. They are totally unique, unusual and really wonderful at the same time. You don't need to add water, you don't need to melt them, they're actually quite simple to use. I've had the chance to demonstrate and use all of them, but first of all I'll start off with my two favourites.

BUNNY MOON

So first of all I should probably explain what the masks are and exactly how to work them. All five masks have a base of carageenan seaweed extract and lots of different fresh ingredients and clays, so they have a squishy texture but they're also doing wonders for the skin at the same time. They're also self-preserving and they last a lot longer than our fresh face masks do. To use, you simply break off a piece, lather it up between dry hands until it forms a paste and then slather it over your face and leave it for 10-15 minutes before washing off with warm water. Simple!

Bunny Moon is my absolute favourite of the five, not just for the adorable name. Okay, maybe the name has a lot to do with it, but it's also my perfect skin companion. It is by far the most indulgent of the jelly masks, with lots of honey (12% to be precise), chamomile and marigold extract and vanilla, it is really hydrating for the skin, as well as leaving your skin feeling silky smooth afterwards. I will state now, they are a pain in the butt to wash off, and you need to be quite vigorous with your face cloth. The results are worth it though, I promise.

Birth of Venus shares it's scent with Kitchen exclusive shower gel Black Pearl, and it's wonderful for calming skin that doesn't quite know what to do with itself. Fresh sea water deeply cleanses and rejuvenates the skin, as lavender and blue chamomile help to balance and calm the skin. And as for the rest of the jelly masks;

JUST TO CLARIFY: This mask will definitely be popular with those of you who suffer from combination skin. It contains lots of enzymic and brightening ingredients, fresh papaya juice, sicilian lemon and orange oils both cleanse and brighten the skin, and ground bamboo stem helps to exfoliate away any dead skin cells.

1000 MILLIHELENS: By far the most intensely cleansing and detoxing mask, 1000 Millihelens contains fresh apple juice which leaves the skin with a glowing appearance, antioxidant green tea infusion and antibacterial tea tree and witch hazel.

FOMO: Very similar to Birth of Venus, FOMO would be a great starter mask, especially for those of you who are worried about sensitive skin, redness or those who feel a little bit apprehensive about trying something new. Rose and neroli are gentle, softening ingredients that won't put too much stress on the skin.

See? They aren't that scary once you know how they work!

BODY SPRAY

I've already proclaimed my love for Twilight body spray in one of my more recfent posts, and after hearing mixed reviews about Rose Jam, I had been eagerly awaiting it's arrival in store so that I could finally try some for myself. And I absolutely love it. It's another welcome addition to one of my favourite ranges of LUSH, and to me it is the perfect balance between the jam-like tones of Rose Jam shower gel, and the sweet but not too sugary scent of Rose Bombshell bath bomb. Fresh rose and geranium provide the floral base notes for this indulgent body spray, and Sicilian lemon oil adds a fresh, brighter flavour to the overall scent. This is definitely going to be my favourite summer scent, I can just feel it.

LUSH are constantly adding more and more to the main line, so for those of you who are feeling disheartened about discons and saying goodbye to your favourite products, I hope that my post has at least made you a little curious about the newest additions to our shops. Maybe you'll even feel brave enough to try a jelly mask or two!

Thank you so much for reading and until the next time,

Rachel
